| 授業概要 | 21世紀、日本の観光産業は、基幹産業のひとつとして成長することが期待されている。世界は高度の成熟化社会のなかで、IT技術の発展とともに、ますます近く狭くなってきている。しかし日本を訪問する外国人ツーリストはツーリストとして海外を訪問する日本人の三分の一以下である。特徴のある文化と永い歴史を有する日本の観光産業は、いまだ海外の人々に知られていない。さらには、国際的に評価される観光施設の充実が望まれている現況といえる。その様な状況を視野にいれて、本授業では、国際観光及び交流の国内外の実態を理解するとともに、それらを支える施設についての総括的知識を、出きるかぎり具体性をもって理解できることを目的とする。具体的には、観光施設を支える多様な施設を多面的に紹介し、分析、検討し解説する。 |

| 授業概要 | 現在のグローバル化社会においてさまざまな異文化交流が盛んに行なわれている。学問や経済活動だけでなく、私たちの生活全般に渡って影響を受けている。このような時代にもう一度歴史や文化を通して、日本とは日本人とは何者か再確認する必要がある。日本人として主体的な生き方が求められる。日本の文化は日本の自然的・地理的条件に制約される。自然環境に対応した生活の体験が積み重なって年中行事が生まれる。年中行事は生活文化の一つである。その年中行事を通して日本の、日本人の生活文化を再認識してみたい。時代とともに、歴史とともに年中行事のありかたが違ったかたちをとって現れる。生活手段により変化が生じてくる。その変化をみて、またその底流にある精神を考えることによって、現代日本人のあり方まで考えていきたい。 |

| 授業概要 | Various issues in Buddhist and comparative (East-West) philosophy will be studied， according to the interests of the students. Each year we focus on a different issue. In 2002 – 2003 we considered ecophilosophy. In 2001 – 2002 we studied death from various philosophical and cultural perspectives. This year we will study transpersonal psychology for at least one term. Students will research and present their own seminar papers to the group. Since the class will be conducted mostly in English， students must be able to understand and express themselves in English. But complete fluency is not required. This is not a language class! |
| 授業計画 | The schedule will vary according to the topics that we choose to study. We will begin by reading a book by Ken Wilber， which I will give to you. Don’t worry， you will read the Japanese translation! |

| 授業概要 | This class will focus on reading and speaking. As Profs. Loy and Watts are specialists in religion and social issues， the topic for both classes (Tuesday and Friday) is spirituality in daily life (日常精神的な生活). There will be three basic themes: everyday life， the environment， and society. Each theme will be related to the practice of “mindfulness” ［becoming aware of how our thoughts， words and actions have an affect］ in our daily lives， our environment and our society. The readings will come from a variety of different sources. The articles will not be too academic， but rather more personal in style. |
| 授業計画 | This class is for high-intermediate and advanced level students of English. If enough students take both the Tuesday and Friday course， classes with both teachers， Loy and Watts， will be coordinated. No final exam. For students who need to improve their vocabulary and reading abilities， especially in preparation for the TOEFL， this class will be ideal. |
