| 授業概要 | Because the environmental crisis is partly an ethical problem， we need to think in new ways about our responsibilities to the earth and its other species. We will consider what ways of thinking have caused the environmental crisis， and how they need to be changed. |
| 授業計画 | We will read (in Japanese) Jeremy Rifkin’s book `Biosphere Politics` (1991)， and discuss it. It is in five parts: Enclosing the Global Commons Geopolitics and the Death of Nature The Culture of Privacy Securing the Body Politic The Coming of the Biospheric Age In addition， several videos will be shown and discussed. |
| 評価方法 | There will be two tests: in July (40%) and at the end of the year (60%). Students will also be evaluated on their class participation . It is very important to attend classes. |

| メッセージ | If you can find a copy， take a look at Rifkin’s book Biosphere Politics before you sign up for this class. I will be lecturing mostly in English， so don’t forget to bring a Japanese-English/English-Japanese Dictionary to class. |
