授業概要 This is an upper intermediate level discussion class that includes advanced level listening activities. The focus is on speaking about important issues, especially about culture and cultural differences. This part of the class will be useful for students planning an overseas study program as you will practice explaining about Japanese culture and society. There will be pair or group speaking activities in every class. Sometimes students will prepare surveys to find out the opinions of their group or the whole class. There will be realistic, advanced level listening activities in this class which will be followed by discussion.
授業計画 We will study units 2, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 in the textbook.
Experiencing a new culture, cultural misunderstandings.
Preparing for a homestay and overseas study program.
Explaining about Japanese culture and society.
Preserving traditional culture.
Animal rights, eating meat.
Violence in movies and on TV.
Nature and environmental problems.
Endangered species.
評価方法 Students will be evaluated on participation in class speaking activities, attendance and an in-class speaking test in which they will be required to talk about an aspect of Japanese culture.

メッセージ This class is a follow up class to Ideas and Opinions 1. It will be especially useful for students who plan to do a homestay or study overseas.
