授業概要 This is an elective course aimed at building communicative English skills. The focus of the course is on speaking and short writings. Topics are selected in collaboration with students so that it reflects their academic interests. Reading and discussion will also be part of the course. At the end of the course, students should be able to express themselves with logic and ease.
授業計画 The course has no textbooks. The instructor provides materials needed for class activities. Students will start by reviewing some important elements of English communication strategies, including speaking and writing. They will then go on to apply what they have learned in given monthly projects. Each student is expected to write a two-page essay and to 10-minute speech.
評価方法 Attendance is important. So is group work. Students may spend up to an hour for their weekly assignments. Grading is based on attendance (10%), in-class activities (20%), weekly assignments (30%) and final project (40%).
