In Western countries like the U.S.\uff0c the U.K. and Canada\uff0c individuals are often asked their opinions and they are often met with opposing views. In many cases\uff0c individuals are then judged by how well they can defend their views &#8211; in other words by how well they can debate. This is sometimes difficult to do for Japanese students because\uff0c as the result of cultural differences\uff0c they are not used to giving their point of view. This class will allow students to take sides on different issues\uff0c presented mainly in articles\uff0c and to debate these issues with their classmates. In this way\uff0c issues will be discussed and debating tactics will be examined.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>\u6388\u696d\u8a08\u753b<\/th>\n<td>Debate and discussion\/ critical thinking\/ analysis of articles\/ presentation skills\/ formulating one\u2019s own views and perspectives<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>\u8a55\u4fa1\u65b9\u6cd5<\/th>\n<td>Final evaluations for this class will be based on total performance including attendance\uff0c class participation and attitude\uff0c homework\uff0c reports\uff0c end of term presentations and\/or examination. This class will give you the chance to find out what you really think about different issues. Some of the issues we look at will be funny and some will be more serious\uff0c but all will help you get to know the thoughts of yourself and others.
