\u6388\u696d\u6982\u8981<\/th>\nThis is an advanced level course for students who want to look at the difficult problem of peace and conflict in the world today. Students will watch parts of a BBC documentary made by reporters in several different countries experiencing war or conflict.If you have never heard of Peace Studies before\uff0c please read how the following teachers describe it.The Director of the Peace Education Program at Columbia University\uff0c Betty Reardon\uff0c described her program as \u2019efforts to achieve human dignity for all people and to realize a viable global society on an ecologically healthy planet\u2019.Elaine Brooks\uff0c who teaches Peace Studies at the University of New York wrote \u2019peace education involves developing in young people not just the desire to avoid war but also the desire to build a more peaceful world- one with peaceful relations among people\uff0c among nations\uff0c and between human beings and the natural environment\u2019.EIC 206 Peace Studies and EIC 205 Peace Studies are linked but can be taken independently. In Mr. Bedelo\u2019s class\uff0c students will look at the causes of war and conflict and the effect on civilians especially children.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u6388\u696d\u8a08\u753b<\/th>\nStudents watch short episodes from the recent BBC documentary\uff0c \u2018One Day of War\u2019. Students will listen to what the soldiers say about who and why they are fighting . This will give insights into the causes of conflict in the world and possible solutions.
Students will do listening comprehension activities based on the documentary. As a follow-up\uff0c students can choose either group discussion or writing their ideas in a journal which they read to other students.

A child soldier in Somalia
A young woman guerilla fighter in Nepal
An Israeli soldier
A young Armenian conscript
A US soldier in Iraq<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u8a55\u4fa1\u65b9\u6cd5<\/th>\nStudents who opt for discussion will give a short presentation on one of the situations they watched. Students who opt for writing in a journal will hand in their journal at the end of the semester and take a written test based on the situations in the documentary.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
