In this course we will listen to and examine some of the great types of music and song that have been sung in English. Music genres that we will hear might include folk\uff0c rock\uff0c punk\uff0c blues\uff0c jazz\uff0c dance\uff0c reggae and hip-hop. We will both listen to these types of music and analyse the lyrics of these songs. In this way\uff0c we will learn about some of the history of the genres\uff0c some of the important issues that they raise\uff0c and the particular English idioms\uff0c slang and other expressions that they have popularized. Students will be encouraged to find their own favourite songs and present these to the class\uff0c explaining their pronunciation\uff0c context (who\uff0c where and when?) and meaning (what is the song about?).Music is\uff0c for me\uff0c one of the best ways to learn to appreciate the beauty of a language. English is especially lucky because there are millions of songs\uff0c in many different genres\uff0c that have been written in English. Each of these many styles use English in different ways with their own particular expressions. We will study these differences. English songs are also used to educate people about various political\uff0c social and environmental issues. We will also study this aspect of the music. If you like music as much as I do please take this course.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>\u6388\u696d\u8a08\u753b<\/th>\n<td>This course will involve:<br \/>Listening comprehension skills\/ Learning some history of popular English music\/ Practicing different idioms and other forms of natural English\/ Pronunciation\/ Identifying different music genres\/ Speculating about the meaning of songs\/ Discussing and debating issues\/ Presentations and group work<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>\u8a55\u4fa1\u65b9\u6cd5<\/th>\n<td>Final evaluations for this class will be based on total performance including attendance\uff0c class participation and attitude\uff0c homework\uff0c reports\uff0c and end of term presentations.
