授業概要 If you are hoping to use English in the future, you need a variety of skills. In this reading comprehension class you will increase your vocabulary and improve your ability to pick out information from written English texts. The more you read, the more you understand good sentence structure. Your vocabulary will expand and this will improve your writing and your speaking skills. In this new textbook you will learn the vocabulary before reading which makes reading easier and more enjoyable.
授業計画 These are some of the topics in your book, followed by the skills you will learn.
An overseas student in America: Identifying topics and main ideas.
Color and fashion: Previewing and predicting.
The history of photography: Identifying main ideas and supporting ideas.
An old Chinese story: Using time order. Suffixes and prefixes.
The history of dance: Skimming and scanning for information.
Biographies: Fact or opinion.
Train travel: Making inferences, synonyms and antonyms.
Reading a story book – extended reading, telling a story.
評価方法 50% for class participation. 20% for attendance. 30% for a story book report. Students will either tell the class about a book they have read or make a recording of their book report.

メッセージ Students must buy the textbook. We will use the textbook every week so please bring it to first class. The content of this class is the same as ESP208 in 2007.
