| 授業概要 | This computer-room class takes a multi-skill approach using the internet to develop reading and listening skills. Students can listen to and watch audio and video streaming of news and documentaries to practice information gathering and organizing skills. In-depth study of issues related to seminar studies can be researched. Another option is to watch documentary video clips with listening comprehension tasks and follow-up discussions. Online website reading or video streaming listening tasks can also lead to pair or group discussion. |

Patagonia: Environmental commitment, 1% for the planet. Koots Green Tea: A taste for matcha latte in the US. Bambu: Saving the rainforest with bamboo. Ben and Jerry’s, Greyston: jobs for the homeless. This I Believe: An NPR Mother’s Day project. World Food Day: Young volunteers in Tokyo. Eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, stomach banding. Brain and behavior: Brain gender, ADHD, the autistic brain. Sweat shops: Child labor and exploitation of children. Grameen “phone ladies”: A recent micro-finance project in Bangladesh. Teen depression, school bullying: Children’s projects. “Children are Unbeatable”: Discipline without violence. Alternative energy ideas in Yokohama, Germany, UK and USA. |
| 評価方法 | 80% for class participation and attendance; 20% for assignments. Homework is not required. |
