授業概要 | This class is designed to enable the students to express their ideas in various settings with confidence. Students will learn to prepare and deliver speeches and give short presentations using visual aids. |
授業計画 | This class will cover different types of speeches such as: Persuasive; Demonstration; Lay out; Informative; Self-introduction and Introducing someone; Show and tell; Impromptu; Book and Movie Review. Students will frequently stand in front of the class and give an oral presentation of an interesting topic helpful the future. For good delivery, important aspects such as good eye contact, voice inflection, gestures (non Japanese), good posture and facial expressions will be discussed. The class will learn how to make effective cue cards with delivery cues and visual aids. Brainstorming and organizing the speech with the introduction, body, and conclusion using transitions and sequences will be taught and the students will give each type of speech in either small groups or to the whole class. The class will include Questions and Answers to the speaker along with peer evaluation. |
評価方法 | Grades on this course will be determined by the following criteria:Regular attendance 30%- If a student misses more than 3 of the classes, she will fail the course. Being more than five minutes late for the class three times will count as one absence. Being more than 20 minutes late is considered one absence.Participation and Attitude 60% The more you speak and are prepared, the better your grades. Mistakes are good. They show that you are trying.Final Presentation-10%- Each student will make a final presentation in front of the whole class. |

メッセージ | This class is opened to all level of students who want to become more confident in speaking in front of others in English. The more you stand in front of a group and speak, the better you become. You will be able to not only give speeches but also evaluate your peers and learn from others too. Public speaking is fun! Challenge yourself! The more you speak the more confident you will become. |
