| 授業概要 | This is a general skills class for students who want to improve writing， reading and listening skills. Students who wish to learn academic writing may do so in this class. Those who wish to make a journal style blog may also do so. Other students who wish to study a broader range of skills may choose any activities from the Hot Potatoes database of movie and documentary study. |
| 授業計画 | How to write an introductory email. How to write a personal history. How to research and write a biography. Read a news story and summarize the main points. How to read and paraphrase a newspaper article. Write a blog journal or write a 5 paragraph essay. Identify main ideas and supporting ideas. Topics covered will include: Preserving the environment. Climate change， greenhouse gases， acid rain， the ozone layer. Your carbon footprint. Environmental issues: renewable energy， sustainability. Food mileage， food technology. Volunteer activities – conservation volunteers， education volunteers. Social issues in the movies. Social issues on the news. |
| 評価方法 | 80% for in-class assignments 20% for an in-class test. |

| メッセージ | This class will be very flexible to meet the study needs of all students. If you studied using hot potatoes before I will make you a special menu of activities for this class. If you wish to have writing assignments corrected， please submit them on a USB stick. |
