授業概要 This is a multi-skill class using documentaries in English. Students watch short video clips from documentaries and look at the issues. In each video you will hear speakers express opposing sides of an issue.As follow-up, you can choose either to discuss the issue in groups or write your reaction in a journal and share your writing with a partner or group.In this class, students will do comprehension exercises based on listening to speakers in the video clip. Students will do background reading for homework.In this way you will broaden your vocabulary, develop critical thinking skills and find out about issues which are topical in the U.S., Europe and Japan.
授業計画 Juvenile crime and crimes against children.
Students will choose other topics such as:
The death penalty
Medical ethics
Nature conservation and endangered species
Cultural diversity and integration
Terrorists and how they think.
評価方法 60% for class participation, 20% for attendance, 20% for a written test in which you write your ideas and opinions about the issues studied.

You need the commitment to doing the background reading and discussion preparation to make this class worthwhile for you.You need to be willing to speak in this class. If you are too shy to speak it is better not to join this class.
