| 授業概要 | This class will be a continuation of ESP 210 from the first semester – however, you do not have to take ESP 210 to take this course. This class will focus on reading and speaking. As Mr. Watts is a specialist in religion and social studies, the contents of this class will focus on spirituality in daily life (日常精神生活). There will be two basic themes in this class concerning: gender and relationships with others. Each theme will be related to the practice of mindfulness [being aware of how our thoughts, words and actions have an affect] on our gender and on our relationships. The readings will come from a variety of different sources. The articles will not be too academic, but rather more personal in style. |
| 授業計画 | This class will focus on high intermediate and advanced level students of English. Mr. Watts’ half of the class on Friday will not be coordinated with the Tuesday class – it will have a separate theme and content. We will read one article for two weeks – the first class will focus on basic comprehension of the article and any technical language questions; the second class will be a more open discussion of the contents and meaning of the article. Homework will be to read the article and be ready to answer the study questions. There will be two unit tests which correspond to the two topics of gender and family relationships and no final exam. For students who need to improve their vocabulary and reading abilities, especially in preparation for the TOEFL, this class will be ideal. |
