科目名 EIC202
教員名 J.S.ワッツ
授業概要 From 16-21 of this past January, 100,000 people from 132 countries attended the World Social Forum in Mumbai, India. This Forum is made up of NGOs and other “people’s” organizations in opposition to the economic and political elite who run the world through organizations like the WTO and the World Bank. A conference of 100,000 people? Who are they? It seems that the idea of NGOs and “people’s” organizations has become a very large and important trend in the world today. In this course, we will learn about all the different kinds of NGO’s and “people’s” organizations. Besides learning the important vocabulary of this topic, we will also learn some basic English skills for participating in such NGO activities, like expressing opinions, agreeing and disagreeing, and making an oral report.
授業計画 This class will focus on intermediate and advanced level students of English. Mr. Watts’ half of the class on Friday will not be coordinated with the Tuesday class-it will have a separate theme and content. We will learn through reading articles and watching videos. We will also learn how to express opinions and study vocabulary related to the class topics. Class participation will be a very important part of the grading. Homework will involve writing thoughts and opinions on the class reading or videos. There will be no written tests or final exam. Instead, there will be a final oral report on the personal interest of each student. The final grade will be coordinated with your Tuesday class performance.
