| 授業概要 | “Education” in high school and university is usually about listening to and reading a lot of information. Then we usually take a test or write a long report. In the end， the topic we study seems like only a bunch of ideas that have no life or connection to our lives. In this class， we will try to make learning more dynamic and participatory. Action Research is a way of studying in which we get actively involved in the topic we study. Often times， our research helps the people we are researching about. For example， if we research about an environmental problem， we get involved in the problem and use our research to help solve the problem. In this class， we will try to learn how to make our studying at school more active and meaningful for our own lives and for others. |
| 授業計画 | This class will use any means necessary to learn – discussions， lectures， videos， field trips， etc. The main focus of the course is RESEARCH. The teacher will introduce the students of a variety of different ways to conduct action research. Then the students will spend the entire semester working on a large comprehensive research project. Students will be encouraged to create teams and work together on one project. However， individuals with a clear plan may work by themselves. Students will also have the opportunity to present their research project in various ways， either as a written paper， an oral report， an internet home page， a project activity， etc. The most important thing for a student who wants to take this course is they must be responsible for organizing their own work. The class will be very open to your own creative ideas， but that does not mean it will be easy. Students must be self-motivated and be able to figure out what work they need to do by themselves. The teacher will work closely with each student to help them create their own study plan. However， the student must take responsibility to complete the plan. This is the reality of the adult world where no one holds your hand. |
